Rain Barrel Workshops coming up in August, September

August 14 2025

AUBURN, Ala.- Community members are invited to attend one of three upcoming rain barrel workshops, promoting sustainable water use and stormwater management. The free workshops will be held on Aug. 23, Sept. 13 and Sept. 20 from 8:45-10 a.m. at the Nunn-Winston House at Kiesel Park (520 Chadwick Lane).

Attendees will receive a free rain barrel to collect and reuse rainwater at home along with tips on how to install, maintain and troubleshoot potential issues with their new reservoir. They will also learn about the benefits of rainwater harvesting, including:

  • Conserving water and reducing reliance on City water sources.
  • Reducing stormwater runoff, which can prevent soil erosion and limit the amount of pollutants that reach our local waterways.

Those interesting in participating must register ahead of time online. Each workshop will be limited to 15 people. Complementary breakfast and coffee will be provided. For more information, contact Marla Smith at msmith@auburnal.gov or Matt Wisenden at matt.wisenden@auburn.edu.

This event is hosted by the City of Auburn and Auburn University Stormwater and is funded through a grant from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.
